January Snow ~ Recognizing Marketing Hype

Winter Snow ~ 2014

Winter Snow ~ 2014

Yes indeed it is a snowy January in Maine.
This photo was taken over the weekend. It was snowing so hard it was like a white out.
As one friend commented, if it wasn’t for the barn being red it looks like a black n white photo. We are enjoying this weather,
yes I know some folks think .. really?  you like snow??  Well, yes we really do.
Winter time is dreaming time of the Spring season and all the planting that I can’t wait to do.
We met the local Lavender Farmer and have put in a 50 plant order.  Knowing they were grown in this area will ensure (fingers crossed) that they will thrive here on the farm.!
So, yes I am daydreaming of the coming seasons, each one new for us here. And planting our garden.
Are you reading your seed catalogs while you are cozy and warm thru this winter wonderland?

Recognizing Marketing Hype ~

It has been discussed on many essential oils groups ~ the marketing of essential oils and the terms they use to sell them.
This is not a new issue honestly, and one we have discussed many many times.

Be on the look out for the following terms .. as they are purely marketing hype .. and meaningless here in the USA ..
Also, in this country the FDA does NOT certify the quality of essential oils and for sure the FDA does not provide a label that states any of the following terms:

- aromatherapy grade
- therapeutic grade
- pharmaceutical grade
- CPTG – Certified Pure Therapeutic Grade
- Certified Pure PharmaGrade -(CPPharmaGrade™)
- EOBBD – Essential Oils Botanically and Biochemically Defined

Robert Tisserand wrote a wonderful article:
Therapeutic grade oils – read all about it.

What’s on the label .. ??

When you are purchasing your essential oils be sure that they have the following information
as this will identify the essential oil you are purchasing:

Example:

Essential Oil Name : Lavender
Botanical Name : Lavendula angustafolia
Country of Origin : France
Method of Cultivation: Conventional, Organic, Wild Crafted, NonSprayed, ONC (Organic Not Certified)
Method of Extraction: Steam Distilled
Plant Material Used: flowers, stems
CAS Number: if possible
Flash Point : if possible

Be an informed consumer! knowledge is power.
The above is great information when purchasing your essenital oils.!
