2. The Full Moon in June ~ The Mead Moon

After the spectacular flowers of May have passed and the bees have gathered their pollen and nectar, the hives are filled with honey that is waiting to be gathered. In ancient times much of this honey was made into a drink called mead by a fermentation process similar to that of making wine.

The 'Moon in June' is the Mead Moon. This year it falls on June 24th at 4:42 PM. Mead has been considered to have magical and even life-restoring properties in many of the countries of ancient Europe, & it was the drink of many of the great heroes of legend.

In the myth of Odin, one of his quests is for the Poetic Mead of Inspiration, which he returns to the realm of the Gods where it belongs, but a few drops fall to Earth, and this may be had by anyone who can find them.

On the night that the Mead Moon waxes full, fill a cup with mead (if it is available), sweet wine, or an herb tea sweetened with honey.

Sip the sweet drink and sit quietly and make yourself a vessel ready to receive the inspiration of the higher realms. Become a mead cup ready to be filled, not with the brew of everyday life but with the clear, bright liquid of illumination.

June was also considered the luckiest of months to be married in. The entire lunar marriage month, besides being called the Mead Moon was also know as the honeymoon.

3. Eucalyptus citriodora

Common Name(s): Lemon Scented Gum, Lemon Scented spotted Gum
Country of Origin: China
Parts Used: Aerial Parts
Extraction Method: Steam Distillation

Major Chemical Constituents:
Predominately citronellal with a small amounts of citronellol, isopulegol and trace amounts of alpha=pinene, linalool and beta-caryophyllene.

Description:
A colorless to pale yellow in color and has a distinct citronella-like scent. The oil is used in the perfume industry to manufacture other aroma chemicals, due to its rich citronella content.

Therapeutic Properties of Constituents: Antiseptic, bactericidal, antifungal, analgesic, deodorant, expectorant, insecticide.

Like many other aldehydes rich oils Lemon Myrtle is sedating and anti-inflammatory at low concentrations.

As an insect repellent this has excellent results alone or when combined with L.petersonii (Lemon Tea Tree).

Method of Application:
Diffuse or in low concentration in body blends. Also an insecticidal and odor reducing oil. It is great to drive out silverfish, cockroaches, ants and mosquitos from the home.

It is wise to rotate the different 'lemon-scented' oils, so that, the insects do not become resistant to the scents and more importantly, you do not become sensitized.

An added bonus is the great deodorizing properties of these oils, great for smelly shoes, cooking smells and pets.

Cautions & Contradictions:
Normal aldehyde precautions apply when using this oil. May be a skin irritant.

4. Summer Time Happenings ~

My herb garden is in bloom, my lavender is ready to be picked. We have been getting rain which we so desperately needed here in NY.

The Summer Solstice (which was June 21st) marks that time of year that the waxing Sun reaches its zenith on the longest day of the year.

We are going into the hot, humid days of summer. Please remember to drink lots of water, and protect your skin from the sun.

There are a lot of 'new arrivals' at SunRose that will be posted up on the website within the coming weeks. (Thank you Kim our Webdesigner at Fallen Muse!)

* Infused (Macerated) oils of Arnica, Calendula, Comfrey and St. John's Wort infused in Sunflower with Vit E.

* We are reworking the pricing on the Perfumer's Emporium page .. These rare and exotic oils are so very costly, we are going to offer them at a wholesale price to 'all' with a $50.00 minimum.

* Another feature that we now offer is the ability to download the retail / wholesale pricelists right from the website.

* Also, we are adding more in-depth descriptions of the oils, so if your looking for information regarding a certain oil, just click on the name of the product you are looking for and it will take you to the description of it.

Enjoy your Summer!
And please check back often to see what's new at SunRose!

Aromatically,
Rosanne
