Then like yesterday here in NYC, the roll of thunder making its own music in the air, yet .. really no rain. The dirt is dusty and so bone dry. Full moon this month is July 24th. The Full Buck Moon - July is normally the month when the new antlers of buck deer push out of their foreheads in coatings of velvety fur. It was also often called the Full Thunder Moon, for the reason that thunderstorms are most frequent during this time. Another name for this month's Moon was the Full Hay Moon. Yet another name for this moon is the Wort Moon, this is the time forthe gathering of herbs. The word wort is old Anglo-Saxon for "herb". Among the magical herbs ready to harvest now is the most magical of herbs, vervain, so revered by the ancients for its hidden powers. (Magical mugwort is also ready to be gathered). The ancient Greeks used vervain to adorn their altars, the Druids in Britain included it in their rituals of prophecy. Also, its has a strong association with purity. It has been a really hot humid summer here so far.. and we still have those 'dog days of August' ahead.! Remember on those days that the air is oppressive
to watch the young and the elderly as they are the
most effected. And please .. don't forget our pets. When working with perfume materials, it is exciting to blend for the season. This way, we can celebrate the individual nuances of each seasonal cycle and offer a variation of scent throughout the year. Here in the Northern Hemisphere, summer is a time to look for refreshing and cooling aromatics to help offset the heaviness and heat of the solar season. Summer can be looked at in a number of ways. Here are some words that come to mind when contemplating summer. - Yang It is a natural tendency for us to seek opposing qualities as we instinctively work for balance. When creating perfume, we want to blend our compositions with aromatics that will: - Cool Sunrose offers three very appropriate perfume materials that go quite beautifully with summer blendings. They are: * Violet Leaf Absolute This absolutely scrumptious Absolute is subtle and cool. Upon first sniffing, it immediately calls to mind lakes, watercress, and cucumber. SunRose's Violet Leaf is particularly lovely. In addition to these light green qualities, the overall impression of this Violet Leaf is gentle and soft. There is no trace of sharpness, only a gentle shading of vegetal softness. For anyone who has clients that ask for culinary scents like pear, or peach, Violet Leaf offers a natural alternative to these synthesized fragrances. Violet Leaf is a top note and should be valued for its fleeting yet seductive introduction to a perfume. 5 ml - $32.16 ...... 2.5 ml - $16.50 * Galbanum A must have for any Egyptophile, this very green note is unique unto itself. Galbanum resonates with very strong metaphysical usage. It is aligned with the Fool in the Tarot Deck and as such, when blending symbolically, is essential for any compositions seeking to express - Infinity Galbanum's aromatic greenness hits you as soon as you open the bottle. It retains its presence down to the dry out and in any blend will offer an overall impression of lip smacking dry-tartness. It can be compared to a dry white wine that needs to be enjoyed with simple foods so as not to disturb its intricate complexity. 10 ml - $11.65 * Mastic Similar to Galbanum with its tart green qualities, it is a bit sweeter and not as shy as Violet Leaf. As a matter of fact, both Galbanum and Mastic may be added to Violet Leaf in minute amounts to lend a bit more robustness to the perfume. Mastic and Galbanum lend unusual interest to blends. Added to other green culinaries, such as basil, they will accentuate the spicier qualities of the Ocimum family while creating a more complex effect that would not be possible if just using Basil. Both Mastic and Galbanum create gorgeous fixation to high quality florals. 5 ml - $15.95 When desiring to create a meditation blend, adding any of these three green notes to the high vibrational aromatics such as Sandalwood, Frankincense or Myrrh will create an interesting and deeply centering effect.
