comments from our readers! Tobacco Absolute Latin name : Nicotiana tabacum L. This is a deep dark brown, semisolid mass of strong, reminiscent of pipe tobacco (memories of my Granpa) scent.! Tobacco Absolute is used not only in the 'tabac' type of modern or aldehydic perfumes, but also, for 'dry' & 'masculine' effects in fantasy types, in Oriental blends, etc. This material blends well with sandalwood, castoreum, labdanum, clary sage, vetiver, bergamot, cedarwood derivatives, etc., and it produces effects which are very hard to imitate or match (with other materials). Arctander - Perfume & Flavors Materials of Natural Origins 5ml - $10.00 ...... 10ml - $20.00 ........15ml - $26.00 Please visit our Perfumers' Emporium Page I was having an interesting conversation the other day and the topic arose of ~ "Why do some oils have a funky smell?" This is the response that Anya wrote me and thought I would put it out there to see if anyone else has this reaction. If you have any comments, kindly email them to me. ~~~ Years ago, when I took several classes at a university that was a citrus research center, I learned that some people are very turned off by the bitter glycoside element found in grapefruits and mandarins. We had labs where we studied fresh fruit, leaves, flowers, etc., and got to sniff and eat our way through hundreds of the citrus family. I'm (Anya) one of those whose genetics predispose me to smell tire rubber when I smell grapefruit and mandarins. After years of using oils, I have found that for some reason, all grapefruit oils are wonderful to me, but mandarins are soooo funky. I just got three mandarin samples today, the green, red and yellow, and the yellow is the least offensive. Wondering .. is anyone else repelled by grapefruit (as in, having it served at breakfast would send you running from the table :-) and mandarins, can you tolerate the oils? The bitter glycosides are also found in chamomile (Matricaria) in the form on anthemic acid. I got some powdered german chamomile herb today, and it makes me choke, yet, I like the EO. I've always hated chamomile tea.
