For those of us that use aromatics for the associations with culture, this is the perfect blending addition for anyone who is creating a perfume bearing in mind India with all her Sacred Mystery. Cardamom Absolute brings to mind the freshly ground spice. For anyone who works with Cardamom, I want to reassure you I am talking about FRESH Cardamom. Cardamom seeds become weaker the longer they remain out of their shells. This absolute is so fresh, so deep, so very fragrantly moist smelling, that it reminds me of an Indian kitchen after the moist black Cardamom seeds have been split out of their pods and are being ground for cooking. And yet, Cardamom is so much more than a culinary scent. This Absolute brings to mind joyous festivals such as Divali, which is coming up. Divali is the festival of lights which celebrates the inner light of Divine Knowledge. I can see blending this Cardamom with Sandalwood to allow for a long long lasting support. It would also go quite well with Ginger Root to create a somewhat eyebrow raising base. If added to Vanilla you would be able to build a perfume that expresses Archetypal Mother energy, or Home, or any blend that honors nurturing. Because this Absolute is so very complex and complete, you can also play with the middle and top notes of this blend. As a suggestion for a heart combination, (middle note), a 5% dilution of Ylang would allow it to mellow itself out into the base seamlessly and ornately. This Cardamom would also be lovely added to Lavender Absolute. I can also see a bit of Ho Leaf or Magnolia absolute here with the Cardamom. The addition of a soupcon of Rose Otto would make for an even creamier accord. Going up to the top there are any number of directions to build onto this material. Tangerine, Pink Grapefruit ... here you would need to balance out the tartness of the grapefruit a bit with some modifiers like the new Tanecetum Annum or Neroli, or Sweet Orange. I can also imagine Blood Orange as a lovely addition to the top of this. If you wanted to keep the spicy nature of the Cardamom more tart, playing with Basil might be a lot of fun with this Cardamom. Just make sure you have a nicely sweet material to ensure harmony between the two components. A blend created from those two would honor both happy marriages and The Indian Deities, Shiva & his consort, Parvati. Cardamom Absolute is a wonderful addition to an
adventurous perfumer's palette.

But — as you may always ask at this time of year — > what is a Harvest Moon, anyway? Lots of half-right (or worse) explanations are floating around and get reported every year as fact. So here is the 100%-right explanation — courtesy of Sky & Telescope, the world's leading astronomy magazine. The Harvest Moon is the full Moon nearest to the date of the autumn equinox. This year they're practically on top of each other; the autumn equinox (for the Northern Hemisphere) comes just a day or so later, on the night of September 22-23. Every full Moon, at any time of year, rises around sunset and floods the landscape with its light as soon as twilight ends. But during the next few nights after full, the Moon usually rises an average of 50 minutes later per night (as seen from temperate latitudes). So early-evening darkness soon prevails. At Harvest Moon time, however, the Moon rises only about 25 minutes later each night after full Moon (again, for temperate latitudes). This means the Moon shines brightly during early evening for several extra days running — traditionally providing welcome light just when busy farmers needed the extra work hours to get in their crops. This was a big deal before tractors had headlights!! Throughout the month there are gourds and squash to harvest. The great variety and stunning patterns and colors of these fruits make them naturally decorative and they can be used by the basketful to adorn the porch mantle and dinner tables. And lets not forget the many varieties of ornamental corn that is also available. This is truly one of my favorite seasons ~ The cool breezes of autumn, and in some places frost at night, with all the colorful goodies from the harvest. The trees starting to become tinged with colors that will paint a glorious landscape.! The kids settling into their school routine. (don't forget to stop when you see the School Bus discharging the lil ones) .. Its time for getting cozy on those cooler nights, be sure to have the fireplace checked and enjoy those quiet times sitting by the fire. So primal. Lots of new products have been added to our website and we just received a new shipment of wonderful rare and exotic oils that will be up on the Perfumer's Emporium page, so be sure to check back once and awhile and see 'what's new'. ~ til next time, SunRose Aromatics Essential Oils and Aromatherapy Products. visit us: http://www.sunrosearomatics.com |
