Newsletter Archives SunRose Aromatics Vernal Equinox Newsletter Welcome to the SRA Newsletter, we hope you will find it informative and entertaining. Our goal is to share with our customers ~ information: featuring articles from SRA & others that will share their knowledge and expertise, any new products, specials that are going on and any news regarding the essential oil trade. SRA welcomes feedback and comments from our readers! Walking around outside with my new puppy Sasha and my older dog Teddy (who is now Big Daddy Ted), I'm amazed to see my neighbors forsythia in full bloom. Bright yellow flowers amid the surrounding still bare gray trees. Looking at my roses I see they are budding already. We had such a mild winter here this year that I think we will have an early spring. It made me think of all the different flowers I had wanted to plant this year. However, we are having such a drought in New York that I may just wait until next year. The thought that I would not be able to water my new plantings was unsettling. The Vernal Equinox falls on March 20th at 7:16 p.m. this year. Its that time when night and day are of equal length and the light is about to grow stronger than the dark. The rites of spring should be celebrated at dawn or at dusk ~ that time that is not a time, no longer winter and not yet spring ... neither night nor day. Soon it will be time to prune back some of the plants. Mr. Robin red breast was outside my window over the weekend. In the Celtic countries the robin of spring carries in its bill a sprig of birch with which to drive out the gold-crest wren of the old year. Birch representing the Goddess or female principle. In the Northern European countries, the Goddess of spring, or the Maiden, is seen as the Birch Goddess. The budding of the birch signals the beginning of the agricultural year. Everywhere the birch is the symbol of fertility. It is good to put the winter behind us now and to look forward to the light, bright months ahead and the rebirth of Nature. The 'new green' color of the budding trees that my Mom loves so much. The tulips and daffodils, and my favorite of spring .. the luscious aroma of Lilacs!
