New Arrivals ~

From a distiller in Hungary ~

Angelica Seed ~ Angelica archangelica
Family : Apiaceae/Umbelliferae
Note : Topnote

Method of Extraction/Plant Part used:
This oil is distilled by steam from the seeds (fruits) of the same plant which yields Angelica Roots.

The seeds are produced in the third year of growth.

Aroma: Angelica Seed is a water-white or very pale yellow, mobile oil of strong, fresh, light and peppery odor. The topnote is distinctly terpene-like, at times almost harsh in its roughness, but also quite fresh. A sweet, almost anisic undertone is quite characteristic, and there is less woodiness, less earthiness in the seed oil than in the root oil.

The main constituent is a monoterpene Phellandrene which is prone to polymerise or resinify when the oil is improperly stored. Store in a cool, dark and dry storage.

Angelica Seed presents a unique fresh-peppery topnote, although a very expensive one.

Caraway Oil ~ Carum carvi
Family : Apiaceae/Umbelliferae
Note: Middle

Method of Extraction: This oil is steam distilled from the dried, crushed, ripe fruit (seeds), a small herb.

Aroma: This is a pale yellow, mobile liquid, possessing a strong and peculiar odor typical of the fruit, but with a fatty-harsh undertone. The taste is similar, but quite burning, warm & biting.

When presenting a 'blind' sample of Caraway oil to an odor panel, one may often hear that 'it smells like rye bread'.

In perfumery, the use of Caraway oil is restricted to soap perfumes where it is often combined with Cassia oil or similar notes. Minute quantities of Caraway oil may be used in Jasmine bases, tabac perfumes, etc.

The main constituents of Caraway Oil is Carvone & Limonene.

Cautions: Avoid during pregnancy. Do not use on young children under 3 yrs of age. Caraway has been found to reduce the efficacy of chemotherapeutic drugs for cancer.

3. Market Update ~

From the Cookson Company Market Update:

Eucalyptus Oil/Eucalyptol: Although the market could be described as nominally weaker, the long term prognosis remains very difficult to fathom. Even the Giant Panda's are concerned!

If prices do retreat we would not expect a return to the levels buyers would like to see; the fact remains that China is the sole producer of Globulus Eucalyptus Oil.

Geranium Oil: Suddenly Egyptian oil has become a problem too. We have probably not yet seen the top of the market for either Egyptian or Chinese.

Rosemary Oil: Tunisia is reporting a 50% reduction in the amount of oil to be available from the new crop.

Sandalwood Oil: The tables have turned: India is again in the driving seat.
