approval process for health claims. The procedure entails a 
public comment period, weight of provided evidence and 
a rating system>

3.  What is 'PRONABIO' & 'NATIORA' ??

Last week I attended an International Roundtable discussion 
at Rutgers University  hosted by ASNAPP (Agribusiness in Sustainable 
Natural African Plant Products), PRONABIO and LDI (Landscape
Development Interventions)

PRONABIO or Professional Organization of Operators in Agri-business
of Natural and Biological Products of Madagascar.

The organization that brings together members from SYPEAM 
and other sectors, particularly: essential oils, spices, industrial
food processing, handicrafts, medicinal plants, cosmetics, etc.

The aim of the organization is:
* To study and to protect the professional, social and economic 
interest of member companies.
* To promote activities in this sector as well as the consumption 
of such products.

Over the years, PRONABIO has increased its means and diversified its 
mission in order to help and to assist to its best the activities and the 
ambitions of its members, i.e.,

* Creation of a permanent sources of information and of advice.
* Preparation for the Quality approach.
* Participation and setting up regulation.

'NATIORA' or The Label 'Natural Products of Madagascar'

After participating in several professional meetings and international
events, the members of the PRONABIO association recognize that the 
certification of products destined for exportation ensures a guarantee
of quality for the foreign buyer. The targeted markets being the USA,
South Africa and Europe, setting up the NATIORA 'label' for natural
products of Madagascar is a priority in order to win over and develop
the loyalty of the foreign customer.

What does the NATIORA label represent? 

With the help of the LDI/USAID program and Rutgers University (USA), the NATIORA label was set up and has been registered as a collective trademark
with the Office Malgache de la Propriete Industrielle. This label will prove that the origin of the product is Madagascar, and will guarantee the natural quality of the product and that the methods of production or collection respect the environment.

PRONABIO is the responsible entity as holder of the trademark, 
and will be the certifying body. 

All the natural products such as essential oils, spices, dry grain, fruits and vegetables, may obtain the NATIORA certification if they respect the specifications and criteria for eligibility  which define these products ~ 

** 100% natural ~ NO additives ~ no trace of pesticides **

Certification covers 4 stages:
* Traceability of the product from collection to storage.
* Analysis of the product in labs authorized by Rutgers University for the 
NATIORA certification.
* Comparison of the physicochemical characteristics in relations to 
international standards and the standards established for the label.
* Certification of the product by PRONABIO.

The products initially selected for registration of the trademark are:
- Clove: stem, bud, leaf
- Fresh Ginger 
- Black Pepper
- Cinnamomum camphora
- Ravensara aromatica
- Cinnamon Bark

As some of you know, SunRose is already involved with one of the members of PRONABIO, and buying their oils.
