2. Profile ~ Tonka Absolute Extra
Botanical Name: Dipteryx odorata
Country of Origin: France
Plant material used: from dried comminuted tonka 'beans'
Note: Base/fixative
Tonka 'Beans' are the seeds from the fruit of a large tree, Dipteryx odorata. The seed is removed from the ripe fruit and is dried and soaked in alcohol or rum for 12 to 24 hours. The seeds then swell and when they are removed from the alcohol bath, they shrink on drying, and on the surface appears the well known crystalline frosting of coumarin.
Tonka Absolute is a semi-solid or crystalline mass of pale amber or pale brownish-yellow color. Its odor is very rich, sweet and warm, distinctly coumarinic-herbaceous, with a prune-like or carmellic-sweet undertone. The odor description 'tobacco-like' is somewhat confusing since Tonka tincture has been used quite extensively in the flavoring of cured tobacco leaves.
Extravagant and seductive, Tonka Bean adds a lush and heady vanilla basenote. It is a valuable tool for to any accord that you wish to deepen. In addition to the Vanilla like qualities, I detect notes of butterscotch and amber. Tonka is utterly magnificent.
I have added Tonka to Benzoin, Vanilla, and Ambrette. It is also a wonderful base for Patchouli, Geranium, Sandalwood, Rose and all the other rich floral notes. Tonka is alsoSunRose Newsletter.ems a lovely ally for the sweeter citrus's that would take up the top of your perfume.
Tonka's metaphysical properties extend to protection and prosperity blends.
Long lasting and rich, it is economical in the sense that the merest hint of Tonka will allow you to create a sensual Oriental flair.
There is not a renegade note in the bouquet of Tonka, just a gentle harmonious luster.
Blends well with Lavender, Lavandin, Clary sage, Flouve.
Caution: Tonka Absolute cannot be used in flavors in the USA and those Countries where a coumarin ban exists.

4. Measurements from ml to oz ~
Many have asked these questions on measurements ~
1 ml = 20 - 25 drops (depending on viscosity of the oil)
5 ml = 1/6 oz or 1 teaspoon (tsp) or 100 drops
10 ml = 1/3 oz or 2 teaspoons (tsp)
15 ml = 1/2 oz or 1 tablespoon (tbsp)
30 ml = 1 oz or 2 tablespoons (tbsp)
60 ml = 2 oz or 4 tablespoons (tbsp)
120 ml = 4 oz or 1/2 cup
These oils are highly concentrated !!
Remember the mantra .. 'less is more' ..

5. Changing Seasons ~
Each Season brings its own uniqueness .. Autumn, with its canvass of vibrant colors! The first whisper of the artic winds coming our way .. which clear the air of the heavy heat and humidity of the end of summer.
Each Season .. with its own ritual, marks the passage of time. For those of you that enjoy creating your own products this is a wonderful time to explore and create especially with moisturizing skin care products for the upcoming winter weather.
On a personal note ~ SunRose will be closed this Friday, October 10, 2003.
We are celebrating the marriage of my niece Christie Marie.. and welcome her groom Anthony Burniston into our family.
A joyous occassion for sure .. a time of sharing.
We will be back on Monday, October 13, 2003.
~ til next time
