FYI - From the Cookson Market Report:
Rosewood oil:
IBAMA arrested 54 people last week for the illegal
logging of protected/endangered trees. Among those
involved in the scheme were IBAMA officials, timber
traders and even government lobbyists.
This development should curtail a lot of illegal logging
and distillation of rosewood oil.
Our principals are unaffected as all the rosewood
they use is fully certified by IBAMA. The starting
point for this procedure is the identification of the
harvestable trees by IBAMA. The controls continue all
the way through the manufacturing process to the
final approval to load oil onto a plane for export.
Rosewood oil: Our suppliers are deep in the Amazon
jungle with IBAMA officials locating and mapping new
rosewood stands. This is holding up new offerings.
For the moment, make sure you are buying legal
(IBAMA certified) oil!
Tea Tree oil:
We hear that two, perhaps even three, Australian
plantations have been purchased for property
development. Prices are rising, particularly as the
Chinese are sold out/between crops.
Who knows, we may eventually see China dominate
the supply of this oil (shades of eucalyptol and
eucalyptus oil??).
Cinnamon leaf oil:
The price of this oil has doubled since March!!
Resistance is now appearing as prices exceed the
highest level for many years.
