Aromatherapy Safety Tips
Photosensitivity (severe sun damage):
* Citrus oils (which are Cold Pressed): Bergamot, Grapefruit, Lemon, Lime, Mandarin, Orange & Tangerine.
* St John's Wort CO2 & St John's Wort Infused Oil
Note: Steam distilled citrus oils do not have this issue.
So, the following is a list of 'should avoid' during pregnancy:
Though the above listed essential oils are listed as contra - indicating during pregnancy in most 'Aromatherapy Novels' .. Martin Watt taught us (yes, I had the honor of taking his Medical Aromatherapy Training Services in 1998) ::
"There are no essential oils that used externally that are proven as harmful to a developing fetus. Vast majority of essential oils listed are common food additives. This is regurgitated stuff from the 'aromatherapy novel writers."
Babies & Children:
Babies (0-12 months): Use 1 drop of lavender, rose, chamomile diluted in 10ml base oil for massage or bathing
Infants (1-5 years): Use 2-3 drops of safe essential oils (non-toxic and non-irritant to the skin, diluted in 10ml base oil for massage or bathing.
Children (6-12): Use as for adults, but in half the stated amounts.
Teenagers: Use as directed for adults.
