Suggested Further Reading By Martin Watt

The author regrets that he can not recommend most of the well-known aromatherapy books for serious study as all of them contain numerous major factual errors.

Recommended:
A very good little book written from practical experience with good recipes, but with a few errors on oils as I would expect. The Essential oils book by Colleen Dodt. ISBN 37038 00913 2.

Bloomsbury Encyclopaedia of Aromatherapy by Chrissie Wildwood. ISBN 0-7475-2085-2. Other versions of this book are around. Great photos of Chrissie doing massage. Comprehensive and well researched.

Aromatherapy by Michelin Arcier. ISBN 0-600-57560-8. Very good photos of massage. Questionable on the essential oils, but a good starter for the beginer.

Well-illustrated examples of massage, with basic guidance on essential oils: The Massage and Aromatherapy Workbook by Avril McConnell. From: Jade College of Natural Therapy www.jadecollege.demon.co.uk

Gattefosse's Aromatherapy is an excellent historical work written in 1937 republished C.W.Daniel and Co. ISBN. 0-85207-236-3. Boy did he know his stuff, a good technical knowledge of oils helps understand it better.

Generally the best sources of accurate technical, toxicological, dermal reactions and some therapeutic information can be found in the numerous International scientific and medical JOURNALS. The best books on essential oil history, production, botany and fragrance are those written on the subject of perfumery, or medical pharmacology from the mid 1800s. Such books often be 'picked up' by frequenting second-hand book shops (cheap) or by getting on the mailing list antiquarian book dealers (expensive).
